What is the best way to keep deer from eating the garden plants?

Like some of the other answers say, Deer Away is good. One of the minuses though with the product are that it is best if you keep applying it after say a half an hour after rain. Just long enough that the rain dries a little.

Also, another natural thing you can do is mix in some marigolds. Apparently, they don't like marigolds.

If you don't want to go to the hardware store, little bit of tabasco sauce again, every time it rains and dries a little. Deer don't like the hot tastes. What is the best way to keep deer from eating the garden plants?
Hey Gail,

Deer Away - chemical smells. What is the best way to keep deer from eating the garden plants?
hang some strong smelling deodorant soap (such as Irish Spring) in an onion bag in several locations around the garden. Human urine also works, sprinked around the perimeter
lion dung

go online to a local zoo

goodluck
shoot the deer.
For years the deer ate my rhododendrons buds, I put bird netting on wood stakes as a barrier. Painted the stakes black to blend in ... It worked !!! Also, for an ornamental topiary plant which the deer knawed all the evergreen balls to the base of each branch --- I transplanted it (because it was so unsightly and looked dead), and then surrounded it with a chickenwire fence and protected that with garden fabric. It worked as well! Now it is back in it's respective place for 2-years. Just protect it every winter now.
A hunting license!
Human hair spread around garden stops animals from entering...also pie tins tied onto metal wire helps...
I am a firm believer in planting what they will not eat, there are lots of really nice options. And there are some things that you will have to accept that you cannot grow. The sprays are smelly and need to be re-applied every time it rains, dung!...need I say more...here is a list of plants:
