What is a good deterent to keep deer, and other critters, out of my Veggie garden?

Short of building a fence or electric strand. I have heard that Moth Balls spread around the perimeter, but not in the Garden, is a good way. What is a good deterent to keep deer, and other critters, out of my Veggie garden?
Hey Chuck,

Marigolds are a deturrent to rabbits, and most other animals do not like their smell. Below are products called ';liquid fence';, ';deerout'; and ';deerscram';.

There are many of these products available. What is a good deterent to keep deer, and other critters, out of my Veggie garden?
Find a dog groomer in your area and stop in. Dog hair scattered around the outside of your garden will slow down or detour lots of critters. Blood meal will do the same, put more down after it rains.
Human Urine on the perimeter will deter deer. You can also buy Fox urine. It sounds strange but the scent of a human will often work better than anything else. We don't usually ';mark'; our territory, but it is perfectly acceptable in the animal kingdom.
Moth balls even though they are on the perimeter will still get into the ground and the roots of the veggies may soak up all of those poisons which you would eat. I would stay clear of any poisons. You can go to the barbar and get some human hair, but all of these things are just temporary and need to be kept up. The best way is to go with the electric fence. They make some for dogs that work well. But if you dont want to do this then go with human hair and soap like irish spring. Put them into soda cans, then put a wooden dowel or rod into the soda can hole. Stick the dowel into the ground with the can upside down on top of the dowel so rain won't melt the soap and or wash the hair. Put one of these every 8 to 10 feet around the garden. You can also run a string to each dowel and hang some aluminum pans on them that move with the wind, it looks ugly, but it helps.
im also wonder how that would be possible, they could leap over a fence, just as easy.
