How do you save a tree that has been eaten by deer?

I have arborvite that was planted last June and a good 6 of them have been deer food for the last few months. They are getting pretty bare. I would like to know how to prevent them from getting chewed any further and if they can be saved - what do I have to do? Is there a fertilizer that would help? How do you save a tree that has been eaten by deer?
You can use an animal repellent spray, such as Ropel. Also have found that pieces of Irish Spring soap will keep them off. If they have any green left on the branches, they should keep growing and eventually fill in. Check with your local nursery for the repellent spray.
