1. My front yard faces North and gets very little sun.
2. We have an outrageously large deer population that isn't too picky about food.
I'm planning on creating two plots: one is about 2' by 10' and the other is a quarter-circle, about 5' in radius.
Also, I live in Virginia, if that helps.

To RScott You give the shortest answers and I give the longest ones.
I'm glad I'm not a deer in your area...my rump would be hurtin' all the time...Any good deer-resistant plants for a shade garden?
Simmer cayenne pepper in water and feed your plants. It does not alter the flavor of anything edible. Works good for all plants. Take it from and old pot farmer. Deer won't come near.
When I lived in Virginia they were so over populated and starving the only thing that worked was electric fence and or a snap in the rump from a pellet gun. Try ';Dave's Garden'; for a plant list. RScott
