How should deer populations be managed more humanely?

I'm asking it here since the only management now is hunting which I assume most vegetarians are against. But if there is no hunting, the deer will starve and freeze to death from lack of food. Any ideas? Reintroduce the mountain lion? Sterilize by salt licks? How should deer populations be managed more humanely?
Reintroduce more predators. How should deer populations be managed more humanely?
Ever heard of the law of un-forseen consequences? What will you tell the farmers when the mountain lions discover the farmer's sheep are easier to catch and their chickens, shoats (baby pigs), rabbits, goats and pet dogs and cats too? What makes you think those big cats will run themselves ragged chasing deer when livestock takes so much less energy?

And what makes you think dumping more chemicals such as those you'd put in the salt into the environment won't have massive un-forseen and undesirable consequences? IOW - did you even THINK before posting those ideas?

Tell ya what: let's leave wildlife management to the grownups!
Reintroducing the lion would not be effective in controlling deer because they would find that domestic animals much easier prey including your pet dog or even you. Sterilization is more cruel than hunting.
idk maybe preserves with plentiful and abundent food sources?. I'm not a vegiterian but huning is definately not humane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's hunting and always will be. At least until Obama takes everyone's guns away.
Take down the 'deer crossing' signs and by the end of this year they'll be on the endangered species list
The wild does not need to be 'managed' period. The end.
Shooting an animal is one of the most humane ways to kill it. I don't think there is a better way.
Lets see....I got it! Lets introduce a highly effective Predator........ME!
