What is the best shotgun to use when deer hunting?

It needs to be affordable yet accurate and able to get the job done? What is the best shotgun to use when deer hunting?
12 ga is the most common although ive seen an 10 ga and an 8 ga they kill your shoulder thoughWhat is the best shotgun to use when deer hunting?
Any 12 gauge shotgun with a slug barrel. It MUST have a slug barrel. If you already have a shotgun you can most likely buy a slug barrel to put on it. If not any gun manufacture will do. If you are a beginner I would recommend the base model, you know the cheapest version they have. I know guys that have hunted years successfully with a cheap shotgun. And when I say cheap I don't mean junk. Just well priced!

Don't listen to Arkel! A slug barrel is made for SLUGS! If you shoot slugs out of a regular barrel it will not be NEAR as accurate!
A 12 gauge pump shotgun....

The 2 most popular shotguns on the planet are the Remington 870 or the Mossberg 500......

Remington 870...

Mossberg 500....

Both of these shotguns have legions of fans... I prefer the Mossberg but will concede many also prefer the Remington... I will stay out of that argument....

Also - Your going to get a lot of opinions on which barrel to use.... I use a smooth bore barrel with an improved cylinder choke... Many say this ain't an accurate set up... Well this old timer has been taking deer for years this way and can say its plenty accurate.....

Anyways.... Read this article about shotguns slugs, barrels, etc.....

Your question is a lot like asking, ';What is the best car?'; The truth is if it's legal equipment in the state your hunting, any gun will do, if you will.

I'll recommend a 12 gauge with rifled barrel and that you use sabot slugs. I'd look to either Remington or Mossberg.
Get a 12 gauge. It doesn't have to have a slug barrel, don't let anybody fool you, but it would be a good feature. A good choice would be a Remington 870 express super magnum, or just express.
A 12 Gauge with a slug or 000 Buck in it. Don't listen to ';stewy'; i have hit a 1/2 inch twig at 80 yards without a slug barrel. it doesn't matter.
12 gauge without a doubt! Take a look at the remington 870 model. It very reliable and not expensive!
12 gauge - pump - long barrel - padded shoulder
