I recently received a bunch of antler tips that have a ';chalky'; feel to them.
I've seen antlers that seem ';hardened' or treated in some way. It's almost like they have a lacquer on them.
i am hoping to get this same ';finish';. Thank you!How do you clean and polish up deer antlers?
You'll need to purchase a quart can of a Water Based Polyurethane - Satin Finish - product, Minwax makes a good one, and a paint brush, a cheap one will do.
Preferably one with natural bristles, you can find these at any home improvement store for around $1. Like I said, cheap brush, it works best???
Shake can to make sure all is mixed well. Open and set aside.
Wipe the antlers down with a clean dry rag to remove as much of the chalky residue as possible.
Tie string to each antler for hanging purposes.
Paint a thin coat on each antler, hang to allow the first to dry 24 hrs.
Paint second coat and allow to dry 4 hours, then third coat if desired.
Let final coat to dry for 24 hours.
This will give you the desired finish you are looking for.
Clean up is easy with soap %26amp; water.
Good Luck!
Happy Holidays!
